The dazzling album features brilliant reimaginings of classic Louis Armstrong hits, including “What a Wonderful World,” “I’ve Got the World on a String,” and “When You’re Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You).” The album also features collaborations between Dr. John and prominent musicians like Bonnie Raitt, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard, and many more, all contributing their original flair to Armstrong’s celebrated catalog.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dr. John stated “I tried to make the songs fit me the best I could. I hope I was always true to the music. I have no idea what the world’s gonna ever say about what that is. But you know what? I felt like I gave it my best.” Through his spectacular arrangements and collaborative interpretations, his best shines through this album. Dr. John’s love and appreciation of New Orleans musical tradition is felt through every song in this 13-track vinyl.
