This year’s Satchmo SummerFest has already produced news. Last night after the keynote talk at Muriel’s, Dr. John and Armstrong producer George Avakian (who speaks Saturday at 4 p.m. at The Maison) announced that they are in the process of recording an album together, Dr. John Meets Louis Armstrong.

The two are recording now in New Orleans, and the album is due out in 2012 on Proper Records. According to Dr. John, “Working with George Avakian doing the songs of Louis Armstrong is my idea of musical heaven.”
