Musician and luthier Don Moser created the “Nite Tripper” guitar to honor the late Dr. John and will present it to Tipitina’s on March 29 at “The Nite Tripper Guitar Comes Home.” Don Moser is an esteemed artist whose work can be viewed in historic locations including the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, The National Museum of African-American History and Culture, and The Smithsonian.
The musical night will feature performances by an all-star cast of recent Grammy Lifetime Achievement Recipient Leo Noncentelli of The Meters, Dave Malone, June Yamagishi, Renard Poché, and more. Performers will shred and showcase their skills on this one-of-a-kind guitar. Any guitar player who’s playing a gig at Tipitina’s will be offered to play it on stage and photos of these performances will be assembled over time into a coffee table book, with profits from sales going towards the Musicians’ Clinic. Tipitina’s manager Brian “Tank” Greenberg states, “I feel that in the coming decades, it is possible that this guitar might be one of the things in Tip’s that people look forward to seeing like the bust of Professor Longhair.”
Don Moser created The Nite Tripper by the inspiration and commemoration of his idol, Dr. John. In addition to the guitar, he has also built a plexi=glass case for it to be displayed on the wall of Tipitina’s for patrons to view and enjoy. Moser explains his inspiration for The Nite Tripper, saying “Dr. John changed the whole game. Nothing would ever be the same. I had to build this one. My guitars were in some of today’s top institutions and now it was time for one to return to the dirt, and what better place then Tipitina’s!”
Don Moser Presents: The Nite Tripper Guitar Comes Home will be held at Tipitina’s on Sunday, March 29 at 9:00 pm. Tickets are available for purchase here.
