Dr. John’s (excellent) new album, Locked Down, was released Tuesday, and already positive press for the record has been streaming in (Rolling Stone, Paste.com, Pitchfork.com, Village Voice, NPR, LA Times, ConsequenceofSound.net, etc.).
Tuesday night, Dr. John played Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with much of the band he recorded with: producer Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) on guitar, Brian Olive (solo, Soledad Brothers) on guitar, Max Weissenfeldt (Poets of Rhythm, Heliocentrics, Whitefield Brothers) on drums, Leon Michels (El Michels Affair, Bronx River Parkway, Menahan Street Band, Lee Fields, Dap-Kings) on saxophone, and Nick Movshon (Antibalas, El Michels Affair, Menahan Street Band) on bass. Also in the horn section on Fallon is Michels’ and Movshon’s bandmember in the Menahan Street Band, Dave Guy. Watch them play “Revolution” below, complete with psychedelic Farfisa solo.
