In 1976, Parliament-Funkadelic made its debut P-Funk Mothership landing, and it just so happened the iconic group, led by George Clinton, chose New Orleans as its landing site. The “Mothership” refers to P-Funk’s elaborate stage prop in the form of an outer-space vessel, or what most of us would call a U.F.O.
With that local angle in mind, DJ Soul Sister will co-host a discussion on the Mothership New Orleans Connection with former P-Funk publicist and “Minister of Information,” Tom Vickers. The event is part of The Message is the Music Series at Three Keys (600 Carondelet St.), where Soul Sister hosts intimate conversations with her favorite masterminds.
Taking place Sunday, December 9 at 3:30 p.m. (doors at 3 p.m.), the Mothership New Orleans Connection discussion will feature “first-hand accounts of the wildness and wonder that began at the P-Funk Earth Tour’s first stop in New Orleans, when Clinton introduced the stage prop from which his Dr. Funkenstein character would descend,” courtesy of Vickers.
This event is free and open to the public and will be recorded for a future podcast, the details of which have yet to be announced. For more information, click here.
And don’t forget! George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic will be performing in New Orleans for what may prove to be the final time, in late December.
