Photoset: Dinosaur Jr. at Tipitina’s

Dinosaur Jr. delivered one of the finest rock shows in recent memory at Tipitina’s Wednesday, October 3, when J. Mascis, Lou Barlow and the man simply known as Murph shredded through their three-decade catalog of alt noise rock. Austin act Shearwater primed the crowd for the ensuing onslaught.

The term “power trio” seems woefully inadequate when describing Dino Jr.’s feedback-frenetic wall of sound, with Mascis’ blistering solos, Barlow’s melodic bass lines and Murph’s throttling drumwork. The band was in ace form — as were Mascis’ inimitably drawly vocals — throughout, revisiting 1987 benchmark You’re Living All Over Me and fast making fan favorites of tracks off their just-released 10th studio effort I Bet On Sky.
