New Orleans-based Americana outfit The Deslondes will release their sophomore album Hurry Home on June 23 via New West Records. According to the band, the 13-track effort will showcase their blend of New Orleans country and R&B while also incorporating a more electrified sound.
That purported stylistic shift isn’t exactly present on the album’s first single, “Muddy Water,” though there’s still another dozen tracks to be explored. A new music video for the tune finds the members of the band reimagining their youth with what Rolling Stone Country calls a “Stand By Me vibe.” You can watch it below.
Named for a street in New Orleans Lower Ninth Ward, The Deslondes is made up of Sam Doores, Riley Downing, Dan Cutler, John James Tourville, and Cameron Snyder, who all split songwriting duties. Doores and Cutler previously performed with Hurray for the Riff Raff, but eventually departed the group in order to focus on The Deslondes.
The first session for the group’s forthcoming album took place over five days last winter at the New West Records studio in Athens, GA. They later invited their longtime producer and engineer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Benjamin Booker) to begin tracking that summer in a makeshift recording studio at the Tigermen Den in New Orleans’ Bywater neighborhood. The album was eventually finalized during a series of session at Tokic’s Nashville studio in the Fall of 2016.
“[Hurry Home] is a fitting title for this album because our lives and our songwriting revolve around leaving and returning, or searching for, home,” says the band. “And home can be a physical place, a relationship, or a state of mind.”
