Brooklyn based Alternative rockers Dead Stars will play The Hi-Ho Lounge on June 29 at 10:00 p.m.
The trio, led by guitarist and vocalist Jeff Moore, plays a heavy, grunge-and-90’s-influenced brand of rock. Clearly influenced by bands like Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr., Dead Stars are able to do what many 90’s-influenced bands can’t: distinguish themselves.
With Moore providing power-chord laden riffs and a mix between J Mascis and Elliot-Smith-without-the-passion, angsty vocals, Jay Moore beating the drums with furious blows and John Watterberg doling out heavy basslines, Dead Stars’ new album, Slumber, has been garnering attention, including nods from New York Magazine and Vice.
Dead Stars has shown a knack for the nostalgic, filming a music video on VHS, releasing cassette tapes of Slumber, and the time tested method to becoming a successful rock and roll band: touring.
Slumber has a number of memorable tracks, including “Someone Else,” “Dreaming to Forget,” and “Wasted,” but to truly appreciate Dead Stars style, one must see them live. Moore’s vocals fit much better, and the rest of the band sounds more cohesive on stage than in the studio.
The superior live sound can be attributed to the tireless touring, including a stop at SXSW, and a 13 date summer tour.
Tickets for the June 29th Hi-Ho Lounge show can be purchased from The Hi-Ho Lounge.
