“Dancin’ In The Streets” is the theme of the ninth annual Central City Festival, set to take place on the 1600 & 1700 Blocks of Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, on Saturday, November 7th.
The event, hosted by the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants & Business Association, will feature live performances by local musicians such as Delfeayo Marsalis and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots, and a tribute to Professor Longhair featuring pianist Tom Worrell and percussionist Alfred Uganda Roberts.
A line dance down the Central City neighborhood will take place at 2:45 p.m., leading to the opening of the day’s live music.
Cooking demonstrations, dance performances, arts and crafts vendors, local food trucks and food vendors, as well as information on a number of non-profits and health organizations will be present at the event.
Also featured is a number of activities for children, including a youth dance contest and youth basketball tournament with prizes. The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will provide an instrument “petting zoo” and craft projects for kids. Art, design, costume-making activities are expected, as well as face painting, storytelling and a book giveaway.
The festival is free and open to the public. Festivities start at 11 a.m. and will run through 6 p.m. More information can be found on the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants & Business Association website.
