Here’s your chance to dance your heart out. This Saturday (August 25) from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. the Louisiana Bucket Brigade, a local organization that takes on the hazards of industrial air pollution, will host its inaugural Stomp Out the Stink Dance-a-thon at Cafe Istanbul.
Adult participants are required to raise $45 in the name of the LABB’s clean air initiatives, and children 12 years of age and under are required to raise $30. The LABB encourages participants to solicit individual donations for their moves or to seek sponsors to pony up a few bucks for each hour they shake and strut. Team enrollment is also encouraged, and over the course of the 12-hour event, there will be a variety of dance lessons and dance contests as well as a live performance by the Stooges Brass Band. Walk-ins are welcome to join in the fun for a $10 donation.
The individual who raises the most money will win a Brass Pass from WWOZ for next year’s Jazz Fest and a refurbished Worksman’s bicycle that was recently recovered from the Chalmette Refinery. In addition to the top prize the LABB will also hold contests for “Best Costume,” “Best Dance Moves,” and “Best Burlesque.”
