On Saturday, September 9, New Orleanians are invited to the annual “Free The Tatas” Disco Ball, a music- and food-filled dance party aimed at raising awareness and money for breast-cancer research, treatment, education, and other genetic research. Organized by Hadassah – a non-profit American Jewish volunteer women’s organization – the Ball will also include an exhibit for one-of-a-kind art featuring photographs of the actual body painted torsos of 18 women in our Greater New Orleans area who have been touched by breast cancer.
In addition to a performances from DJ Crescent City and burlesque dancer Trixie Minx, the event will include a live auction led by Chuck Mutz of the Black Tie Auctioneer. After dancing up an appetite, party-goers will be treated to food and drink from over 30 restaurants including Copeland’s of New Orleans, Mikimoto Japanese Restaurant, Louisiana Specialty Drinks, Casablanca, Copelands, Five Happiness, Red Dog Diner, Kosher Cajun, Vincent’s Italian Cuisine, Lebanon Cafe, and more.
The 2017 installment will honor sisters Cathy Bart and Judy Lieberman, who according to event organizers are “two women who were the forefront of preventative treatments against breast cancer over fifteen years ago. Before the BRCA positive gene was widely known and aggressive treatments were accepted, both women decided to take a progressive approach against breast cancer. Thanks to women like Cathy and Judy, preventative treatments are more widely accepted and understood.”
“Free The Tatas” Disco Ball takes place at The Cannery (3803 Toulouse St.), and tickets are available here. For more information on the event, please visit the official website for Free The Tatas.
