The Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp St), has announced the commencement of submissions for CURRENTS 2023, an annual exhibition that spotlights photographic artistry within the New Orleans Photo Alliance community.
Submissions are accepted online, and the window will remain open until September 23. Jacob Moscovitch, a seasoned figure in the photography world, will be the discerning juror for this edition of CURRENTS. The accomplished Moscovitch, recognized for his keen eye and editorial prowess, has contributed significantly to the art form as a photographer and photo editor for The New York Times.
The showcase will feature up to 10 skilled artists, offering a dynamic overview of contemporary photographic techniques, styles and concepts. The selected photographers will each be able to display a collection of four or more images that can provide viewers with a comprehensive view of their artistic endeavors.
The unveiling of CURRENTS 2023 is scheduled for December 15, 2023, marking the commencement of a visually immersive expedition that will continue through January 29, 2024. The exhibit coincides with the much-anticipated 2023 PhotoNOLA Festival.
While no specific theme is prescribed for submission, Moscovitch stated that the curatorial team seeks to “celebrate exemplary, compelling, and emerging photography across the full landscape of photographic art including portraiture, conceptual, documentary, storytelling, collage, mixed media, etc. While there is no theme, works grounded in personal frameworks are encouraged.”
Aspiring participants can find further details and submit their entries on the official CURRENTS website or contact Ogden Museum of Southern Art. For those who still need to become members of the New Orleans Photo Alliance, joining is a simple step that opens the door to this opportunity.
