Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet Announce New Album Out April 25

New Orleans funk trombone legend Corey Henry is gearing up to release his highly anticipated album Corey Henry and the Treme Funktet: Live at Vaughan’s on April 25 via Louisiana Red Hot Records. The album marks Henry’s first new release since his critically acclaimed Lapeitah and offers fans an electrifying snapshot of his weekly residency at Vaughan’s Lounge.

With its tight rhythm section, fiery trombone solos and deep roots in New Orleans’ second-line tradition, Live at Vaughan’s captures the energy and spontaneity of a Thursday night funk party in the heart of the Treme. The album features a mix of originals and covers, including an unforgettable version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” and classic New Orleans favorites like “Hey Pockey Way” and “Trumpet Black.”

“This is Thursday Night Live down here in New Orleans,” says Henry, who has long considered Vaughan’s his musical home. “Anyone coming through town is invited to join the funkiest party in New Orleans.”

Fronting the Treme Funktet, Henry stays true to his origins in iconic bands like The Treme Brass Band and Rebirth Brass Band, while pushing the boundaries of the genre with scorching trombone solos, hip hop-infused lyrics, and an unmistakable groove. His latest project showcases the band’s unparalleled synergy and Henry’s unrelenting commitment to keeping the funk alive in New Orleans.

The album’s tracklist includes:

  2. Treme Life

  3. Trumpets Not Guns

  4. Slippin’ into Darkness / Hey Pockey Way

  5. Tell Me

  6. Candlelight Suite

Corey Henry’s legacy in the New Orleans music scene is undeniable. A former member of Galactic, Henry has received critical acclaim from outlets like The New York Times and has been recognized by OffBeat for Best Trombone and Best Funk Band. But it’s at Vaughan’s Lounge, where he has held a long-running residency, that Henry truly comes into his own, channeling his family’s deep ties to the Treme neighborhood and his musical upbringing under mentors like Tuba Fats and Kermit Ruffins.

“Where I grew up, Treme was alive with social aid and pleasure clubs and brass bands,” says Henry. “I used to follow second lines around the block, and now I’m here, keeping that tradition alive.”
