It’s the hottest time of year in New Orleans, which means it’s COOLinary season. The annual celebration of New Orleans cuisine features specially priced brunch, lunch and dinner meals from dozens of participating restaurants. In the past, the meals were served for dining in, but this year’s event offers takeout and delivery options.
COOLinary kicked off August 1 and runs through September 13. Multi-course meals are available at participating restaurants at lunch for $20 or less and $39 or less at brunch and dinner.
Participating restaurants include — but are certainly not limited to — Andrea’s Restaurant in Metairie, Apolline in the Garden District, Backatown Coffee Parlour in Treme, Bourbon House in the French Quarter, Cafe Degas in Mid-City, Carmo in the Arts District, Domenica in the Central Business District, Filmore in the Oaks in Lakeview, Gabrielle in Treme, Haiku Sushi & Bar in the Garden District, Hippie Kitchen in Jefferson, Katie’s in Mid-City, Meauxbar in the French Quarter, Nola Caye in the Arts District, Patois in the Garden District, Riccobono’s Peppermill in Metairie, Sala in Lakeview, The Elysian Bar in Marigny/Bywater, The Munch Factory in Gentilly/New Orleans East/Chalmette, Tony Mandina’s in Gretna, and Zea Rotisserie & Bar in Harvey.
Folks can search participating restaurants by neighborhood, type of cuisine and there’s even an option to seek out minority-owned restaurants specifically. This year, the nine minority-owned restaurants participating in COOLinary are Annunciation, Bacchanal Wine, Backatown, Brasa Churrasqueria, Bywater American Bistro, Haiku, The Elysian Bar, The Munch Factory and Tsunami Sushi.
Of course, diners must wear suitable face coverings when sensible, wash hands before and after meals and practice social distancing. Each participating restaurant will implement strategies to keep COOLinary safe during the pandemic.
