Ashé Cultural Arts Center and Opera Créole have announced a nationwide event organized in response to gun violence. Concert Across America to End Gun Violence will take place on Sunday, September 24 at Ashé Power House (1731 Baronne) from 6-7:30p and is but one satellite event in a series of similar concerts being held across the country. September 25 is the date designated by Congress as a day of remembrance for murder victims, making this year’s concert an acknowledgment of the 10th anniversary of the designation – though much work remains to be done. According to organizers, the mission of the Concert Across America is to remember the tremendous loss of life that gun violence has cost American communities.
Through both social media and concertacrossamerica.org, the simultaneous events will be connected to one another and millions of viewers as a means of presenting a united front in the face of crime. Organizations, activists, and artists will all be contributing to the event in an effort to galvanize political energy ahead of 2018 midterm elections and the 2020 presidential campaign season.
The New Orleans event will include OperaCréole, Bamboula 2000, and more artists to be announced. For more information about the New Orleans Concert Across America call (504) 569-9070 or (504) 952-5240.
