Community Conversation will focus on health equity for artists

The New Orleans Opera Association and New Orleans Musicians’ Assistance Foundation will jointly host a public forum addressing health equity for artists in the Greater New Orleans area. The Community Conversation will take place on Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at the New Orleans Jazz Market, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard.

The New Orleans Opera Association’s upcoming production of La bohème centers on the lives of artists in Paris during the 19th century. With prominent themes of love, loss, poverty and illness in the artistic community, there are many parallels to the current challenges of our time, especially challenges related to healthcare.

Panelists will include Bethany Bultman of the New Orleans Musicians’ Assistance Foundation, Giovanna Joseph and Ava Mason of OperaCréole, Dr. Lacey K. Adkins of LSU Health Sciences Center, Dr. Joynell Bean of Touro Hospital, and Connie Jackson of trepwise.

The New Orleans Musicians’ Assistance Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports and expands the mission of the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, which provides comprehensive medical care and social services to local musicians, performing artists, cultural workers, and tradition bearers. We serve any patient 19 or older and their family, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
