Up-and-coming rock outfit The Colossal Heads will be playing the Parish Room at the House of Blues this Saturday at 8 p.m. with openers Southern Arrow, Jesse Tripp and the Nightbreed, and South Jones.
The New Orleans-based trio calls their sound “post-apocalyptic pop rock”, and the description is apt. A recent performance at uptown venue The Willow showcased an intense, sweat-streaked style and powerful original compositions that were at once compelling, eerie, and melodic. Not to mention really frickin’ loud.
Although guitarist and lead singer Anthony Italiano, bassist Danny Lester, and drummer Kyle Carroll were all born and raised here, Italiano says that the New Orleans sound has had very little influence on their music.
“We’re a lot more influenced by 90s alternative rock. Very old Modest Mouse, very old Queens of the Stone Age. The whole grunge scene, for sure. Like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, things like that.”
The band released a five-track EP last year and will be returning to the studio next month to record a full-length album.
In terms of other future plans, the guys are focused on hitting the road. They’ve booked tours for this spring with stops all over Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama.
Catch them at the House of Blues while they’re still in town! Tickets are on sale here.
