The Grammy Hall of Fame, an institution created to honor recordings of historical and cultural significance, has just recently shown the bayou some love. Recorded in 1975, Clifton Chenier and his Red Hot Louisiana Band’s Bogalusa Boogie has recently been inducted among other 2011 inductees such as Hank Williams, Otis Redding, Prince, and The Beatles. Chenier is still known as the King of Zydeco, and can also be counted as a member of the Blues Hall of Fame.
While Chenier already has one Grammy under his belt for his 1983 album I’m Here, it’s always refreshing to see Louisiana music represented in mainstream media. Chenier’s legacy is further preserved by by his son, C.J., who continues to record and tour with his father’s band.
