New Orleans roots songwriter and slide guitarist extraordinaire Chris Vincent announces the release of his new single, “Rascal,” available everywhere Friday, April 18, 2025. The track showcases Vincent’s signature raw, AI-proof sound—pure, one-take roots anthem recorded live with no digital polish, and backed by the haunting bark of a prototype Gibson archtop slide guitar.
“Rascal” is more than a showpiece for Vincent’s tight storytelling and driving guitar—it’s a personal tribute. “It’s a favorite of mine to play live,” Vincent shares, “and it was also a favorite of a certain New Orleans bartender who is no longer with us—a truly lovable rascal indeed. He passed before the recording, but sang along every word with me quite a few times. In many ways, including this song, his memory lives on.”
Lyrically, “Rascal” is an anthem for the unconventional—the ones who walk the road less traveled. It’s a theme that fits Vincent’s life perfectly. After the 2024 release of his breakout album, “Things Have Changed,” Vincent found himself thrust into the spotlight, representing New Orleans at the 2025 International Blues Challenge in Memphis this past January.
The single was recorded by Grammy Award-winning engineer Jake Eckert at The Rhythm Shack, and is part of the recording sessions for Vincent’s upcoming full-length album, “Good Crook,” slated for release in mid-summer 2025. The album features collaborations with New Orleans drumming legend Johnny Vidacovich and acclaimed bassist Dean Zucchero, promising a collection steeped in the city’s musical soul yet pushing the music squarely into the future.
Vincent’s music continues to buck trends with its lo-fi immediacy and emotional honesty. “Rascal” is a powerful reminder that the blues is still a living, breathing art form—and one that Vincent is determined to keep raw, real, and, like the man himself, quite original indeed.
