Chris Robinson Brotherhood has been swinging through New Orleans pretty frequently these past couple of years. Since the fall of 2015, the band has played two shows at Tipitina’s and headlined the Hogs for the Cause music festival. They’ll return to the city on Sunday, September 17 when they bring one of their two set displays of improvisational prowess to the Civic Theatre.
The CRB will be on the road in support of their forthcoming album Barefoot in the Head, which is slated for release on July 21. The group, which finds former Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson joined by guitarist Neal Casal, bassist Jeff Hill, keyboardist Adam MacDougall and drummer Tony Leone, has already put out two singles from the new record—“Behold The Seer” and “High Is Not The Top.”
“After six years of solid touring with this band, we can still roll into Fayetteville, Arkansas on a Tuesday night and have the most fun of any musical thing I’ve ever been a part of. We don’t have the weight of responsibility or nostalgia, which means we’re in the very psychedelic situation of getting to be totally honest and create everything in the moment,” says Robinson. “The music that we make, the concerts that we play, it’s this world we’ve created for ourselves and our people. We want everybody to understand that no matter where you are in your life that you can always be barefoot in your head. There’s always this other place you can go.”
The CRB’s last New Orleans show took place at Hogs for the Cause in April. The performance featured jammed out renditions of The Black Crowes’ “Tornado” and “I Ain’t Hiding,” covers of Slim Harpo’s “The Music’s Hot,” Hank Ballard’s “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go” and Marvin Gaye’s “Try It Baby,” as well as plenty of originals.
Tickets for their upcoming Civic Theatre gig will go on sale Friday, June 2. You can check out our 2016 interview with Robinson here.
