Chamber Music Festival returns to New Orleans with Birdfoot

Birdfoot Festival is back for the eighth year in a row of the New Orleans-style chamber music festival throughout the city featuring performances, open rehearsals, free community concerts, and “backstage” experiences. The festival will take place from May 28-June 1, 2019 at a number of different venues in New Orleans.

Special events include “Nothing But the Truth” (a musical courtroom drama), “Talk: The Art of Noticing with author Rob Walker” (studying the implications of of noticing), “Birdfoot Backstage: Schubert’s Death and the Maiden” (lively exploration of Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” Quartet) and much more.

Specific to this year’s event, highly recognized artists will perform a series of concerts and events all diving deep into the history of music beginning in the 1600s and continuing until the present. The festival has announced 18 artists who will spend ten days rehearsing, teaching, performing, and inspiring generations of music lovers. Some of the artists include Grammy-winning violinist Karen Kim, Grammy-nominated violinist Alex Fortes and Michael Unterman, countertenor Reginald Mobley, and harpsichordist James Johnstone. Coming out of New Orleans are two members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Kate Withrow and Amelia Clingman. Birdfoot Festival’s Artistic Director and New Orleans local, violinist Jenny Sherry, will be joining these artists as well.

“When it comes to chamber music, the Birdfoot Festival strives to deliver bold, uncensored, and intensely personal musical experiences” says Sherry. “We believe that when audiences are given the chance to not just hear, but experience chamber music up close, they can connect with the music in a deeper and more personal way.”

Birdfoot Festival puts in an effort to make sure the events will reach a broad audience and have a connection to each individual watching. The audience is very important to the energy and experience of the festival, according to Sherry, and the festival tries to create a shared loved of music with all attendees.
