Roadside Glorious, the Southern rock ‘n’ roll group whose star has been climbing the sky on the New Orleans music scene recently, is debuting a new music video ahead of an appearance at Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo on Saturday, May 18.
Drummer Aydan Closson, lead guitarist Evan Hall, vocalist/guitarist/harmonica player Basch Jernigan and guitarist Tyler Self released their debut album as Roadside Glorious in 2018 and have since appeared at some of the region’s biggest music festivals. Today (May 17), they’re showcasing Brawn and Bone‘s “Catalina” with a new music video. The song features the full band plus saxophonist Ian Bowman (Naughty Professor), trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor (Sexual Thunder, Noruz) and J and the Causeways’Jordan Anderson on Wurlitzer.
“The song was written with the intention of being a story the listener can follow along with and envision easily,” the band tells OffBeat.com. “Story-telling is one of the many great things about music and song-writing, so we wanted to try to tap into that. Lyrically, we hope for the song to be a reminder that often times the things or people we think and/or are told we need in order to achieve happiness aren’t really what we need at all. Catalina is meant to be a character we can relate to – someone who is strong and independent but feels like she needs someone or something else to help her be successful and happy. In this case, that someone or something is a significant other and marriage.”
When it came time to conceptualizing “Catalina” in video form, the band didn’t have an exact idea in mind but were certain they wanted it to be humorous. “We’re goofy guys so we were wanting to keep things pretty light,” says Jernigan. “We were lucky enough to work with Connor Reever – a talented photographer, videographer, and musician in New Orleans – who directed and edited the project. He, along with Spencer Mann (Director of Photography), helped mold the idea into what it was and with the help of a really funny cast things unfolded once we were all together.”
“Goofy” sells the video short, as a descriptor. It’s weird but beautifully shot, kind of like a Wes Anderson movie. Nothing really makes sense, but it somehow fits the song perfectly.

Roadside Glorious will perform on Bayou Boogaloo’s Port Orleans Dumaine Stage on May 18 from 5:35-6:45 p.m. The festival has always been a favorite of the band members. “We always look forward to the festival and we really appreciate and support the mission of Friends of Bayou St. John. We’re really happy and honored to work with this great organization and group of people,” Jernigan says.
