The cherished holiday tradition of Caroling in Jackson Square returns on Sunday, December 22. Hosted by Patio Planters of the Vieux Carré, this free community sing-along has been a hallmark of the holiday season since its inception in 1946. From 7-8 p.m., Jackson Square will be filled with the sounds of holiday classics, candles aglow and thousands of voices united in celebration. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., with volunteers distributing complimentary songbooks and candles to participants.
This year’s event will feature Mark Romig as master of ceremonies, with performances by local favorites Harry Mayronne, Chris Wecklein, Amy Alvarez, and special guests The Big Easy Boys and Marshall Harris, each leading a holiday tune. The event, open to all, will also be live-streamed on NOLA.com and PatioPlanters.net and available for later viewing on WLAE channels starting December 23.
In support of this magical evening, Patio Planters invites attendees to enjoy the French Quarter Holiday Home Tour earlier that day, from 12 noon to 4 p.m.. The self-guided tour offers exclusive access to private residences adorned in festive splendor. Tickets are available online on the day of the event (children 12 and under free). Advance purchase is strongly recommended due to high demand.
“Caroling has been our gift to people from near and far since 1946,” said Patio Planters President Joey DiFatta. “We hope families will spend the day enjoying the decorated homes, shopping, dining and coming together in Jackson Square for this joyous tradition.”
Proceeds from the Holiday Home Tour help underwrite the costs of Caroling in Jackson Square, including candles, songbooks, and event logistics. The annual tradition also receives support from Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Office of Tourism.
