Acclaimed Cajun French accordion player and singer-songwriter Bruce Daigrepont will release his sixth album, Bienvenue dans le Sud de la Louisiane, in September.
The record, whose title translates to “Welcome to South Louisiana,” features 14 original tracks. All of the tunes are played in the traditional Cajun dance hall style and sung in authentic Cajun French. The album also comes with a booklet includes English translations of all the lyrics.
Bienvenue dans le Sud de la Louisiane finds Daigrepont accompanied by the same band that has toured North America and Europe with him since the 1990s. The ensemble includes Gina Forsyth (fiddle), Jim Markway (bass) and Mike Barras (drums).
As Dan Willging noted in the June 2014 issue of OffBeat, “Not many people can single-handedly take credit for popularizing a genre but Bruce Daigrepont rightfully can for introducing Cajun music and dance to New Orleans’ non-Cajun, “hippified” contingent in the ’80s.”
Daigrepont and His Cajun Band will celebrate the album with a CD release party at the Rock ‘n Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday, September 18. The show is set to begin at 5:30pm.
