The first-ever Ignition Festival plans to bring a Burning Man vibe to New Orleans on October 15-18. The event–organized by the Krewe of Chewbacchus (the theme is “CHEWBURNITALL”)–promises to deliver three days of “music, interactive art installations, sound stages, theme camps and much more” at a “hidden urban oasis in New Orleans East.”
That music lineup is finally starting to take shape, as the festival has now released an initial round of acts that are scheduled to perform. The list of predominantly electronic artists includes Tristan Dufrene, Javier Drada, Mic Phedusha, Cameron Kelly, Oscillation Communications and more, as well as instrument-oriented acts like punk rockers The Jerk Officers. Many of those artists will be showcased at one of the festival’s “soundcamps,” such as a psychedelic arrangement of LED-lit cubes dubbed All Saints.
Those that are familiar with Burning Man’s signature offering will be happy to know that the Ignition Festival is also set to feature some large scale fire art. Most notably, the team plans to set fire to a giant wicker wookiee named “Big Chew,” though other wooden art pieces will be put to the flames as well.
Additionally, the Ignition Festival will treat attendees to plenty of other mind-bending, non-flammable art pieces like Ickybhat’s (an open cabana resembling the temple from 1970s TV series Land of The Lost), the Most Monster (an oversized puppet that spectators will be able to control), R4D20 (a distant cousin of Stars Wars character R2D2) and Tail (a cloud-like what tail built on a self operating, driveable cart).
