On the heels of opening its flagship music venue in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn last month, Brooklyn Made Presents– a growing music promotion company – has announced its expansion to the South in an exclusive booking deal with the Civic Theatre, the legendary 1,200-seat music venue in New Orleans. Housed in the oldest theatre in New Orleans, the Civic Theatre has been called “the country’s first modern historic theatre” and has already built a rich history since reopening its doors as a music venue in 2013.
Spearheaded by Senior VP, Concerts Charlie Adler and Brooklyn Made Presents President/CEO Anthony Makes, the partnership adds to BMP’s impressive roster of venues throughout the US, which includes CMAC, The United Palace, and the brand-new Brooklyn Made club. As a promoter with 30+ years of experience in the business, Makes is looking to redefine what it means to be a 21st century music company.
“We are excited to be working with The Brooklyn Made team,” commented Civic Theatre owner Bryan Bailey. “Anthony Makes and I have known each other for 8 years, and their approach to live music fits perfectly with the brand that we have previously established under Bowery Presents. Makes, Charlie, and the entire Civic team are on the same page about the direction of the live music scene for both the Civic and New Orleans.”
Bailey, a Tulane graduate, was involved with the historic theater’s renovation, helping to refine the acoustics of a historic building designed for natural amplification in the early 20th Century in order to accommodate larger electronically amplified sounds. He was able to do and keep the original Beaux Arts architectural details in tact, no small endeavor.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be booking the Civic Theatre with Charlie,” commented Makes. “We have been massive fans of this venue since Bryan brought it back to life in 2013. We look forward to continuing to bring the best artists to this unbelievable venue that is second to none in New Orleans.”
Upcoming shows at Civic Theatre include Billy Strings, Colter Wall, Mitski, and Dropkick Murphy’s, with additional bookings to be announced in the coming weeks. For more information, please visit here.
The theater opened in 1906 as the Shubert Theatre and is the oldest performance theater in the city. It was built by the Shubert Brothers who were credited with establishing New York’s Broadway theater district. The theater was their first venue outside of New York and was used for plays, vaudeville, concerts, burlesque and film. During its history, Director Cecil B. Demille put on a production and performers such as Mae West performed at the theater.
