Renowned pianist Brian Haas will swing through New Orleans this weekend for a few shows with different projects.
Tonight (Friday, October 16), Haas and his mind-bending improvisational outfit Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey will play a “double drummer” gig at the Maple Leaf with special guest Johnny Vidacovich. The group, which also features Josh Raymer and Chris Combs, has been making music for 20+ years, and has recently been on the road in support of a new live album titled The Battle for Earth.
On Saturday night, Haas will team up Mike Dillon, James singleton and–once again–Johnny Vidacovich for the debut of their new ensemble, The Modern Nolatet, at Snug Harbor. The group recorded its forthcoming album, Dogs, at New Orleans’ own Esplanade Studios earlier this year. The new LP is slated for release in early 2016 via the Royal Potato Family label.
Finally, Haas and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey will stick around on Monday night, when they peform at the Dragons Den’s Instant Opus Jazz Improv Series with Jason Marsalis and others.
