BrechtFest presents works by Bertolt Brecht at Allways Lounge

BrechtFest 3, the  third annual New Orleans celebration of the writings of German poet and playwright Bertolt Brecht, will be held on Monday, March 7, 7 p.m., at the Allways Lounge Twilight Room.

The performance of music, spoken word, and puppetry features David Buchbinder, Bremner Duthie, Pandora Gastelum, Aaron Gunn, Karen Kunkel, Donald Lewis, Harry Mayronne, Joseph McGinty, Stoo Odom, Susanne Ortner, Lisa Pasold, Mark Rubin, Robert Schaefer, Dr. Sick, Lydia Stein, David C. Symons, George Trahanis, Peter Webb, and Chris Wecklein. The performers’ collective credits include the original production of Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown, Edinburgh Fringe, Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival,  and Berliner Ensemble as well as the Allways Lounge presentations of Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Happy End and The Threepenny Opera (co-produced with Cripple Creek Theatre) and the bands Obliquestra, The Salt Wives, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band.

The performance features the music of Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, and others were part of a daring creative zeitgeist in Weimar-era Germany between the two world wars.

Admission is a suggested donation of $20-$30. Advance tickets may be purchased here.

All proceeds will benefit New Orleans Abortion Fund. The Allways Lounge is located at 2240 St. Claude Avenue.
