The Super Sunday gathering of Mardi Gras Indians has been postponed due to rain, according to New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian council spokesperson Ashlye Keaton.
The day of parades and music originally scheduled for this Sunday morning will now take place on Sunday, March 23, 2014. With forecasters predicting a 70 percent chance for rain this Sunday as of this morning, the Council is hoping the weather will clear up in one week’s time.
There have been no changes to the route, which will begin at Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street, move onto Simon Bolivar Avenue, turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, left onto Claiborne Avenue, left onto Washington Avenue, and back to A.L. Davis Park on Washington and LaSalle.
Creole Wild West Big Chief and New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council President Howard Miller predicts between 24 and 32 Indian tribes from all across New Orleans will participate.
