Four out of five doctors agree that you’re probably not getting enough brass in your diet, but you can get your monthly dose at the first ever BRASStravaganza on Friday, June 13, at the Howlin’ Wolf.
BRASStravaganza brings together the divergent styles and songs of seven brass bands in one powerhouse evening: the Grammy nominated Hot 8 Brass Band, Red Bull Street King Competition winners The Original Pinettes, The Free Agents, To Be Continued, Most Wanted, Legacy, and Young Pinstripes.
Tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door, and the show starts at 10 p.m.
BRASStravaganza also serves as an introduction to Brass Fest, which will make its debut in the fall. The all-day event features an expanded lineup of the city’s brass talent, including Grammy winners Rebirth Brass Band, Hot 8, The Stooges, and Most Wanted. Artists who have emerged from the brass band tradition, such as Shamarr Allen, are also on the roster.
“New Orleans defines brass more than any other city, state, or country,” Brass Fest founder and producer, Ersel “Garfield” Bogan III said in a press release. “Brass Fest creates a means of strengthening our music community while we bring something worthwhile to people who love our music.”
Until Brass Fest makes its first appearance in the fall, lovers of brass and New Orleans music in general will be able to sate themselves with the monthly fun and excitement of BRASStravaganza.
Tickets may be purchased online here or from the bands themselves.
