Renowned saxophonist Branford Marsalis, a leading figure in contemporary jazz for over four decades, has signed with Blue Note Records, the iconic label synonymous with jazz excellence. Marsalis’ debut release for Blue Note, Belonging, is slated for spring 2025 and will feature his acclaimed quartet: pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis, and drummer Justin Faulkner.

To coincide with the album’s release, the Branford Marsalis Quartet will embark on an extensive tour across the United States and Europe. Fans can stay updated on tour dates and album details via branfordmarsalis.com.

Marsalis expressed his admiration for the label, stating, “I am grateful to Blue Note for its steadfastness in preserving the music for generations. I have listened to countless Blue Note albums over the years and look forward to making a contribution to this great library.”

Blue Note President Don Was shared his enthusiasm: “Over the last 40 years, Branford has been one of the most soulful and eloquent purveyors of a brilliant musical tradition. We are thrilled that his long path has finally led to the doorstep of Blue Note Records. We’re gonna do great things together!”

Growing up in New Orleans as the eldest son of the late Ellis Marsalis, Branford Marsalis has forged a remarkable career as a saxophonist, composer and bandleader. With three GRAMMY Awards, a Tony nomination and recognition as a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, Marsalis’ impact spans far beyond jazz. His work encompasses classical compositions, Broadway productions, film scores and even collaborations with pop icons like Sting and the Grateful Dead.

Recent highlights of his career include composing the score for the film Rustin, collaborating with Hungarian musicians on Ősz fele van az idő (Autumn is coming), and the debut of his classical piece, Kalamazoo Suite, with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.

Marsalis has also made significant contributions offstage. Following Hurricane Katrina, he co-founded the Musicians’ Village in New Orleans, which houses the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music. Earlier this year, he was named the Center’s Artistic Director, a role in which he continues his father’s legacy of fostering community and creativity through music.

As an educator, Marsalis has dedicated nearly two decades to teaching at North Carolina Central University and conducting workshops worldwide, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Marsalis’ signing to Blue Note heralds a new chapter in his illustrious career. With Belonging, he joins the ranks of jazz legends who have called Blue Note home, further cementing his legacy as one of the most dynamic and innovative voices in jazz.
