The Branford Marsalis Quartet will head to Snug Harbor in New Orleans this weekend for an unprecedented four-night run from December 10 to 13. The shows will mark the saxophonist’s first headlining gigs at the iconic Frenchmen Street club since 1984.
The quartet will be accompanied by Kurt Elling, the world-renowned jazz singer from Chicago, who will join Marsalis and his band as a special guest. According to club manager Wesley Schmidt, the musicians will all be in town to record a new album.
Marsalis and his quartet will play two shows each night during their run, with one show at 8pm and another at 10pm. The group features Joey Calderazzo (piano), Eric Revis (bass) and Justin Faulkner (drums). Tickets for the performances are now on sale.
Over the course of his 35-year career, Marsalis has earned a reputation as one the most respected jazz saxophonists of his generation. A native of New Orleans and an alumnus of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, he now calls North Carolina home. Elling has performed at Jazz Fest and is one of jazz’s best-known male performers.
