Popular Bourbon Street club Bourbon Heat will host a fundraiser for Alanna Romain on Wednesday, August 13.
Romain, a server at Bourbon Heat and a mother of five, was shot on the night of August 9 when an unidentified gunman opened fire on a crowded porch in the Lower Ninth Ward.
Romain remains in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen, two of her children were also shot and seriously injured, and her teenage daughter broke her leg during the attack, according to Bourbon Heat manager Huey Farrell.
Kermit Ruffins, Rockin’ Dopsie, James Andrews, Big Freedia, 5th Ward Weebie, Guitar Slim, and DJ Chicken have all volunteered to perform during the fundraiser on August 13.
“The entertainers are incredible,” Farrell said in an email. “They volunteered almost immediately. Our staff is in shock…We need to raise as much money as possible.”
Farrell said Romain is the main breadwinner for her family, making it all the more important for the community to come together to try to help out as much as possible.
The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m., and the music will continue until dawn. There will be a $20 cover at the door, and all money raised will go directly to Romain’s family.
