Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival Kicks Off Third Year

Some of the biggest names in Southern blues will descend on Bogalusa this weekend for the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival.

Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival 2014Though only in its third year, it has quickly become a staple of the blues circuit, named 2012’s “Best New Event of the Year” by the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals and one of the Louisiana Tourism Department’s Top Ten Must-See festivals.

Because attendance soared past 5,000 in 2013, they’ve added a second day to the line-up this year, as well as on-site camping.

The headliners, Southern rock mainstay J.J. Grey & Mofro, will close the festival 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Other acts include Big Daddy O, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, and Paul Thorn on Friday, and Big George Brock, Johnny Sansone, Mike Zito, Devon Allman, and Ruthie Foster on Saturday.

The weekend’s festivities also include ample food and art vendors, as well as a tribute to Bogalusa native Professor Longhair with a special event poster designed by fellow Bogalusa native Richard Thomas.

The festival will take place at Cassidy Park, 129 Ben Miller Road, with shows from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, September 26, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 27.

Tickets are on sale online and at the gate and cost $10 a day, with children under 12 free.
