“In light of the current concerns coming from health authorities and in following the city of New Orleans guidance on local events cancellations, Red Bull Dance Your Style New Orleans qualifier scheduled for this Friday, March 13th is postponed until further notice. We are committed to working closely with local authorities to monitor the evolving situation, prioritizing the health and safety of the community,” Red Bull told OffBeat in an emailed statement.

On Friday, March 13, Republic NOLA will host the return of Red Bull’s Dance Your Style competition, which brings dancers from New Orleans and the southern region of the U.S. in a freestyle battle.

At the event, 16 competitors representing styles ranging from traditional hip-hop to jookin’, locking, popping and more will compete in front of a live audience. Local talents DC Paul and DJ G-Cue will host and provide music, respectively.

Local dancers competing include Omari Dillard (Neutron) of the New Orleans Pelicans Hype Team, Louisiana native and 2019 Queen of The South for Waacking, Ashly Nguyen (Sheik), and 2019 Red Bull Dance Your Style National finalist Nicholas O’Williams (Nick Fury). These dancers are competing for a slot in the Red Bull Dance Your Style U.S. National Final in Washington, D.C., which takes place April 23 through 25. The U.S. Champion will then advance to the World Final, hosted in October.

On top of the dance competition, there will be live performances from dance collective Body Talk, who merges everything from classical ballet to West African dance. Some may remember them from Drake’s “In My Feelings” video.  Also performing is New Orleans rap legend Choppa, who will take to the stage with bounce dancers Flash and Skip.

Tickets for the Red Bull Dance Your Style qualifier at Republic NOLA are available here and begin at just $5. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
