The blues world has lost a giant with the announcement of Texas bluesman Johnny Winter’s death at the age of 70.
Winter performed at Jazz Fest 2014, filling the blues tent with his signature sound. Known for his trademark white hair and lightning fast guitar licks, Winter leaves behind a wealth of live, studio, and bootleg recordings.
Often paired with his brother Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter’s career stretched from his early days playing with his idol Muddy Waters to performing at Woodstock in 1969 to being named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”
In honor of Winter’s life, music, and accomplishments, we have created a playlist to capture just a sample of his extensive legacy.
Rest in peace, Johnny Winter.
