Blues guitarist and singer Chris Vincent will host a retreat at the Hotel Cazan in Mamou, La. August 9-10 for professionals as well as talented amateurs. Vincent, who has a new album out titled Things Have Changed, will teach slide guitar technique to guitar players ideally at an intermediate level as well as the music theory behind the blues and how to use that theory to break out of a songwriting rut.
The boutique Hotel Cazan, as described by their website, is located in the heart of Mamou’s Historic District, at the one and only red light. On the same block as World Famous Fred’s Lounge, with live Cajun music every Saturday morning only, a bakery with popular cheesecake, and several neighborhood Cajun bars, plus a cute public plaza with a mural and a fountain, perfect for taking photographs, you will feel as if you have traveled back to a simpler time and place.
The Hotel Cazan is described as being “cute, quirky, clean, and eclectic. Every room has a theme, from octopuses and dogs to New Orleans, ships, and even a Supernatural Room with a spooky skeleton that lights up.” The hotel is pet friendly.
HQ will be at the Hotel Cazan, 401 6th St., Mamou, LA (at the only traffic light in Mamou, corner of 6th and Main streets.). Attendees check in Friday afternoon, in time for a “guests only” reception with live music by Vincent. Saturday will have a suggested field trip to the world famous Fred’s, a legendary Cajun neighborhood bar with live Cajun music Saturday morning only. Chris will hold teaching sessions all day Saturday for the group with ample opportunity for one-on-one work with the attendees. Guests check out on Sunday, leaving with a swag bag and memories, armed with a new skill set and new friends.
Vincent states: “Louisiana roots music inspires me, and Mamou is a musical oasis. Perfect for a retreat, we’ll relax, recharge, listen, and learn.”
