ABC and MRC Live & Alternative announced today that Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022 will feature Billy Porter as the host of its New Orleans segment.
The show has also added Reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee, a native of San Juan, and Puerto Rican actress and singer Roselyn Sanchez as co-hosts broadcasting live from New Year’s Eve festivities in Puerto Rico. The island is the inaugural destination for the show’s first-ever Spanish language countdown. The new year’s bash will take place on the grounds of the Puerto Rico Convention Center at DISTRITO T-Mobile, Puerto Rico’s newest entertainment and nightlife complex. The most-watched annual countdown to the new year, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest will air Friday, December 31, live on ABC at 7 p.m. CST.
An Emmy-, Tony- and Grammy-winning actor and singer, Porter is no stranger to the stage. He most recently won the Emmy Award for Lead Actor for his appearance in FX’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated drama Pose, and also appeared in American Horror Story: Apocalypse.
A Hollywood Walk of Fame inductee, Porter has numerous theater credits, including the role of Lola in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, which he originated in 2013 and for which he won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards, as well as a Grammy for best musical theater album.
Porter, who co-hosted last year from Times Square, will visit New Orleans as the master of ceremonies for the Central Time Zone countdown. He previously co-hosted from New Orleans in 2019. Other co-hosts this year include Liza Koshy and Ciara. In 2020 Big Freedia took part in the festivities while singer Lauren Daigle was removed from the broadcast after hosting an unsanctioned holding a “superspreader event” at Jackson Square in November 2020 during a surge in coronavirus infections.
