Two decades ago, Mannie Fresh and Birdman gave New Orleans a classic rap record as The Big Tymer$. To celebrate the anniversary of How You Luv That – which sold over 100,000 copies with no major radio or video airplay – the duo is performing at the 8th Annual Ballers Ball at Club Maison on Friday, October 27. Kicking off Halloween and Voodoo Fest weekend, the event will help commemorate a milestone in southern rap, one which ushered in an era that cemented the careers of rappers like Lil Wayne, Curren$y, and more.
Eventually, The Big Tymer$ went platinum, thanks to 2000’s I Got That Work and its 2002 follow-up, Hood Rich. As a unit, the two haven’t dropped an album since 2003’s Big Money Heavyweight, though they have each remained independently busy. Birdman is best known as the founder of one of New Orleans’ most iconic record labels, Cash Money and Mannie continues to produce for artists including former OffBeat cover artist, Flow Tribe. He most recently dropped a single with Big Freedia called “Dive.”
Tickets for the celebration go on sale this Friday, September 22.
