Big Sam’s Funky Nation had a number of their instruments stolen in Las Vegas on Wednesday night. Big Sam’s signature trombone was among the items that were taken when the band’s vehicle was broken into following their October 12 show at the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas.

Fortunately, Mike Corrigan of Kansas City’s B.A.C. Musical Instruments was able to provide Big Sam with a new horn for the remainder of the band’s tour, which continues tonight with a show at the Crystal Bay Club Casino in Crystal, NV.

According to a Facebook post, the thief (or thieves) smashed a window on the group’s van before making off with the instruments. Manager Stephen Klein told NOLA.com the loot included Big Sam’s trombone, JBlakk Henderson’s bass amp and Seizo Shibayama’s guitar, along with other items like Big Sam’s favorite pair of Krewe du Optic sunglasses. Klein estimated the value of the stolen items exceeds $10,000.

Wednesday night’s show marked the first stop on Big Sam’s Funky Nation’s West Coast Fall Tour. The New Orleans funk outfit will be on the road through October 31 as they play gigs across California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Utah.
