Big Freedia, the “Queen of Bounce,” recently seen at the Ace Hotel for the premiere of the newest season of her Fuse TV show: Big Freedia Means Business, has announced a new album titled Central City, set to release on June 23.
The record, produced through Queen Diva Music, will feature collaborations with artists Lil Wayne, Faith Evans, and Kelly Price, to name a few. Freedia has released a single from the album, “Bigfoot.” Previously released singles “Central City Freestyle” and “$100 Bill,” featuring Ciara, are set to appear on the 16-song tracklist.
Central City’s release follows the start of a big year for Freedia. In March, Freedia became the first-ever recipient of the Breaking Barriers award at PFLAG‘s 50th-anniversary gala, an honor presented to individuals using their platform to help remove obstacles to LGBTQ+ and intersectional equality in the pursuit of a more just, equitable and inclusive world. Additionally, to celebrate Pride Month, Freedia collaborates with New Orleans’ “cultural funhouse,” JAMNOLA, to raise funds and awareness for PFLAG New Orleans.
Central City will be Freedia’s LP release in nine years, following her previous album release, Just Be Free, in 2014. Since the release of Just Be Free, Freedia has released several singles and EPs, as well as appearing on tracks like Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” which sampled Freedia’s 2014 song “Explode.”
Big Freedia’s single, “Bigfoot,” is now available for streaming. Central City will be released in full on June 23.
