New Orleans’ Queen Diva of Bounce, Big Freedia not only stars in her big TV docu-series debut, she continues to raise the bar — or in this case, raise the rump. This week Freedia traveled to New York City for a series of interviews and prime time television guest spots in preparation for the launch of her mini-series, “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce,” which airs Wednesday, October 2 at 10 p.m. Central on Fuse TV. While she was there, she took time out at Herald Square to teach over 300 New Yorkers how to twerk — properly. And an official adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records was there to log history.
That’s right, as of September 25, 2013, New Orleans’ own Big Freedia holds the world record for the most people twerking at once, for the longest straight period of time. After accepting her official Guinness World Record Award, she even spoke on the Miley Cyrus incident and invited Miley to come take a twerking lesson from the Queen Diva herself.
But you didn’t have to be in New York City to partake in the red carpet television premiere, because the Queen Diva hosted her Fuse TV debut fanfare at home in the Big Easy on Sunday, September 29. New Orleanians had the chance to catch the first episode of “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce” on a big screen at the Republic night club, where one of the city’s most popular monthly bounce nights takes place, three days before the rest of the world will see it on Fuse TV.
Complete with a red carpet step-and-repeat beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday night, the bounce-star-studded event (Katey Red, Sissy Nobby and all the bounce divas are slated to be in the house) featured a screening of the full first episode at 8:30 p.m., followed by a live performance from Big Freedia and the Divas themselves.
