Big Freedia has added “cooking show host” to her CV as she hosts a series of cookouts in which she prepares garden-to-table meals in New Orleans City Park’s edible botanical gardens in front of a live audience.
Launched on July 2 of this year, the new show — which emerged out of her two livestreamed cooking shows, “Whatcha Cooking Wednesdays” and “Sunday Gospel Brunch” — includes dishes like You Already Know Stuffed Bell Peppers and booty smac ‘n’ cheese and use fresh herbs and vegetables picked from the garden.
“Cookouts bring people together,” says Big Freedia. “I am so excited to get people back together in an outdoor environment. To partner with City Park, who have been educating the public about gardening and food, is an honor.”
The event takes place every Thursday, with 32 tickets available in advance via her website, here. There will be an additional 16 tickets made available day of, weather permitting. The $75 ticket includes a three-course meal, free cocktail and a photo with Big Freedia. Seating will be implement social distancing measures.
Her Wednesday and Sunday shows will continue to be livestreamed on Big Freedia’s social media accounts.
