The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) and Big Freedia are teaming up for a sold-out world premiere collaboration concert. The performance on April 13 at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans will feature Big Freedia performing some of her most popular hits and new music accompanied by the LPO. This will be the Queen of Bounce’s first performance with a live orchestra.
The LPO has a history of collaborating with local artists and musicians as part of its mission to engage and represent the community it serves. This concert with Big Freedia is the latest example of this commitment.
Big Freedia, the local and nationally recognized hip-hop artist, TV personality, and cultural influencer, is known for her infectious energy and personality. She has appeared on high-profile projects like Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning “Formation” and Drake’s “Nice For What.” She also covered “Judas” on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary album.
Big Freedia’s music is heavily influenced by New Orleans Bounce, a style of hip-hop that originated in the city. This makes her collaboration with the LPO, a full-time, collaboratively governed and operated orchestra rooted in a culturally diverse community with a two-hundred-year orchestral music tradition, a unique show for both artists.
