Beyoncé will return to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, September 24 when she brings her Formation World Tour to New Orleans. The show will be the superstar’s first performance at the venue since a 2014 co-bill with her husband, rapper Jay-Z.
It will also mark Beyoncé’s first stop in New Orleans since the release of her 2016 single “Formation,” which was accompanied by a music video that utilized imagery of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Additionally, the song included an appearance by bounce star Big Freedia and a sample of slain New Orleans rapper Messy Mya.
Some derided the video as an unjustified appropriation of New Orleans’ Katrina experience, while others called the criticism overblown.
Nevertheless, Beyoncé’s concert at the dome is sure to be a massively popular affair. She will be touring in support of her newest album Lemonade, a multimedia project that been generating plenty of buzz in the recent weeks.
Tickets for the show will go on sale next Friday, May 13 via Ticketmaster, though American Express cardholders will have the option to purchase them two days in advance.
