Friday night at Generations Hall, we presented the winners of the 2011 Best of the Beat Awards, as voted on by our highest-ever number of Best of the Beat poll respondents. Lifetime Achievement in Music Award recipient George Porter, Jr. and his Runnin’ Pardners, GIVERS, Big Freedia, Lost Bayou Ramblers, the Soul Rebels, Glen David Andrews, and Aurora Nealand & the Royal Roses all performed, in addition to a short tribute set for Porter by an all-star band, including Dr. John, Art and Cyril Neville, Papa Mali, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Stanton Moore, David Barard, and a special Runnin’ Pardners horn section.
