The 11th Annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo will take place on May 20 through the 22, on the banks of Bayou St. John in New Orleans.
Headliners for this year’s festival include The Wailers, Irma Thomas, Lowrider Band, Buckwheat Zydeco, George Porter Jr. and Runnin’ Pardners, and Lost Bayou Ramblers.
“We’re thrilled about the 2016 line-up, one of the most anticipated since the inception of Bayou Boogaloo over ten years ago,” said Jared Zeller of MotherShip Foundation who produces the annual festival, in a press statement. “With several platinum-selling artists like The Wailers and Lowrider Band plus Grammy award-winning locals like Irma Thomas and Buckwheat Zydeco, the 2016 Bayou Boogaloo is sure to be a memorable one.”
In 2015, more than 35,000 people attended the festival. This year’s event will feature music on four stages, a curated arts market featuring 65 regional artists, a Family Village with games and activities for all ages, and food from 30 local restaurants and caterers.
This year, the National Endowment for the Arts has awarded the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo a prestigious Art Works grant in honor of the festival’s impact on increasing livability in the community through the arts.
Performers for this year’s Bayou Boogaloo also include CC Adcock, NOLATET, Truth Universal, Billy Iuso & Restless Natives, ROAR!, Soul Brass Band, Robin Barnes – “New Orleans’ Songbird”, Motel Radio, Rory Danger & the Danger Dangers, Muevelo, Debbie Davis & The Mezmerizers, Red Hot Brass Band, The Quickening, Big Pearl & the Fugitives of Funk, and Ron Hotstream & the Mid-City Drifters.
