The second annual Battle of the Bows Cajun Fiddle Competition will be held on October 1 in Jennings, Louisiana. This year’s competition will take place in the Strand Theatre from from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be dedicated to the memory of Cajun fiddler Arthur Leger, who died in March at the age of 95.
Participation is open to both professionals and amateurs, with 16 contestants competing for cash prizes last year from all across south Louisiana. It is also open to all ages, with categories for youth (age 12 and under), junior (ages 13-18), adult (age 19 and older) and professional (all ages). They also added a twin fiddling category for pairs of participants.
A panel of judges from the Cajun music industry will judge the competition, will judge on the criteria of Cajun music knowledge and accuracy of noting and intonation, along with all the other techniques involved in playing the fiddle Cajun style.
Each contestant will be required to play a Cajun waltz of their choice and a Cajun two-step of their choice.
