Oysters will be plentiful at the Third Annual Baton Rouge Oyster Festival, an event that honors the significance of oysters to coasts and kitchens in Louisiana. “BR Oyster Fest” gathers South Louisiana food vendors and food lovers alike to celebrate and eat authentic oysters. The festival is made possible through the volunteer Oyster Festival committee, local support, and generous partners.
There is no lack of entertainment or food at the BR Oyster Fest. Festival highlights include an array of mouthwatering oyster dishes provided by nearly a dozen food vendors, an oyster shucking competition, an oyster eating competition, and an oyster cook-off. Live music for the event will feature artist Gin Blossoms, Cracker, My Posse in Effect – A Tribute to the Beastie Boys, Werewolf, Your Mom, and School of Rock Baton Rouge.
In addition to showcasing the culinary art of cooking oysters, the Baton Rouge Oyster Festival seeks to bring awareness to its benefactor, the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL). CRCL is a non-profit that works tirelessly to restore coastal Louisiana through large scale land building. Since 1988, CRCL has dedicated their efforts to preventing further loss of Louisiana coastlines through educational programs, natural resources recycling, and annual events that educate on the implications of the receding coast. Baton Rouge Oyster Festival and CRCL hope that visitors not only enjoy the consumption of Louisiana oysters at the festival, but learn and understand how to advocate and take action for the benefit of the environment.
