The restaurant formerly known as IHOP (International House of Pancakes) recently broke the internet when it announced a name change. Now, the entity is known as IHOB (International House of Burgers), much to the chagrin of breakfast lovers everywhere. Basin Street Records is taking a cue from IHOB, but in a way that benefits the neighborhood and serves up delicious flame-grilled goodies along the way.
On Tuesday, June 19 (Juneteenth), Basin Street Records will morph into “Basin Street Burgers.” Together with the label‘s flagship artist Kermit Ruffins, BSB will serve free hamburgers to the public at Kermit’s Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge. According to organizers, the free hamburger giveaway was planned to coincide with Juneteenth, an unofficial day of commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas (and, by extension, the entire Confederacy).
Basin Street Burgers and Kermit Ruffins’ giveaway runs from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Mother-in-Law Lounge located at 1500 N. Claiborne Ave.
